How an Employee Surveying Firm Cuts Down Design Training Time With Visme

“Having surveyed 500,000 employees since the start of the pandemic, I know firsthand how stressful people analytics can get. Visme has been quite helpful with sales presentations, data visualization, research reports, webinars, proposal development, and creating debrief reports for our clients.”

Andrew Kitchner, CEO of New Wave Solutions (NWS)

Andrew Kitchner, CEO of New Wave Solutions (NWS), did not plan on starting his own employee surveying firm. Originally, he was managing one of the largest employee wellbeing labs in the country, working with psychologists to find the best predictor of long-term retention.

Through his research, his team uncovered research that challenged the status quo. Research from Harvard, Wharton and Andrew’s team have left no doubt—employees who are actively committed to their company stay longer and perform better than those with high levels of engagement.

Here are 3 reasons companies are focusing on Organizational Commitment instead of Employee Engagement (supported by independent research).

Motivated by this research, combined with a desire to improve surveys for employees and employers alike, Andrew started New Wave Solutions (NWS) to help companies use employee feedback to improve employees’ commitment to their organization’s goals, values and mission.

Andrew and his team have since surveyed more than 500,000 employees across all 50 states and more than 45 industries.

“We’re trying to transform the employee surveying space from engagement to commitment, and more importantly, we’re trying to create a survey that is more of an opportunity for employees rather than an obligation.”

In an effort to help their company stand out, they use Visme to create visual communication for their marketing efforts, their sales collateral and their client deliverables, as well as research and webinars.

How New Wave Solutions Uses Visme to Create Visual Communication Throughout Their Business

Andrew first discovered Visme when he was in graduate school, using the tool for research presentations for talks he gave at Stanford. He continued to utilize the software all the way through until he started New Wave Solutions, and knew it was going to be perfect for their client deliverables.

They’ve created this sales tool that provides an overview of their services that they share on social media and with prospective clients:

As we mentioned, Andrew’s team uses Visme for a variety of content types—from marketing and sales content to internal communications to client reports and other deliverables.

“We use Visme for a lot of different things. We use it for some social media posts that require graphics. We use it to create brochures like the overview [seen above]. We use it for slide decks for sales pitches. We also use it to create some of the deliverables we provide to clients including survey communications, distribution options, as well as stuff on the back-end, like executive overviews.”

Here’s an example of an infographic his team created that breaks down the differences between employee commitment versus employee engagement:

Andrew’s team also takes the time to create beautifully designed client reports to share their findings and survey results with employers.

“The space of employee surveying isn’t something that makes people jump up with excitement, but what does is actual insights. So our Return to Work Sentiment Report has a lot of statistics in there about how employees feel. We could write about these in a blog or long white paper, but that doesn’t elicit as much engagement. Visme allows us to visualize information that would otherwise have to be written and make it more engaging and easier for clients to find the information that’s most relevant to them.”

The Return to Work Sentiment Report that Andrew mentions can be found here:

As you can imagine, creating these multi-page reports can take a lot of time. But with a tool like Visme—and our templates, design elements, content blocks and more—Andrew’s team is able to save valuable time.

“We use previous layouts that we’ve created—some of those are variations of templates and some of them were created from scratch. Though we don’t want to completely duplicate them so that every report looks the same. We want to distinguish them from one another while still keeping branding the same.”

According to Andrew, by starting with templates, they’re able to shave down about 30 minutes per project (which equals out to two hours each week) on design time. You can find your own starting template below:

Visme’s brand kit also makes it easy to stay on brand, even across content types. This webinar that New Wave Solutions presented matches the branding of their employee sentiment report perfectly:

Not only that, but using Visme makes training new team members and even interns so much easier and less time consuming.

“If you look at alternatives like some of Adobe’s products that are more complicated and expensive, they’re not intuitive, so you have to hire somebody who’s specifically trained in utilizing those. Whereas with Visme, I can get an intern trained in it and up and running pretty quickly. It’s very intuitive, and even if you learn as you go, that process is a lot quicker and easier than a lot of other platforms.”

Andrew says that training someone in Visme requires at least ten fewer hours of training than it would take to train new employees in Adobe products—and we can all easily look at the cost savings between these two platforms as well. (Adobe costs businesses $84.99/month per license while Visme costs $24.75.)
