If you’re a marketer, content creator or business owner, you’re likely already using AI writing tools in some form.
They’ve found their way into my workflow as well.
And why not? These tools can draft blog posts in seconds, generate high-converting ad copy on the fly, transform rough ideas into polished presentations and even create compelling videos from simple text prompts.
In fact, a survey by Influencer Marketing Hub showed that 35.1% of marketers used AI for content production in 2024.
While that’s nearly a 10% year-over-year decrease from 2023, it doesn’t mean AI adoption is slowing down—it’s actually evolving.
Tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet and Meta are collectively planning to invest over $320 billion in AI infrastructure in 2025.
And according to Ross Fledderjohn, the CEO & Co-Founder at SiteRight & Stammer.ai, we’re only scratching the surface of what’s possible:
“Right now is the worst these AI apps will ever be! I review hundreds of AI apps every month and they are improving at an incredibly rapid pace with updates being pushed daily. People always ask me how to get started without feeling overwhelmed and I simply say you have to just sit down and take an hour to try them out. You’ll be way ahead of the competition, knowing exactly which ones work best for your business and able to pump out content—organic and paid—for way less than traditional costs.”
The bottom line? No matter how powerful AI is today, it’s the least advanced it will ever be. And that means the way we create content is only going to get smarter and faster.
I’ve even noticed that marketers are becoming more strategic by balancing automation with authenticity to ensure content remains human-first.
With that in mind, I’ve rounded up 12 of the best AI writing tools to show you which ones actually help humans create better, more engaging content—not just robotic text or generic designs.
Let’s dive in.
*Disclaimer: The comparisons and competitor ratings presented in this article are based on features available as of 20th February 2025. We conduct thorough research and draw on both first-hand experience and reputable sources to provide reliable insights. However, as tools and technologies evolve, we recommend readers verify details and consider additional research to ensure the information meets their specific needs.
As part of this review, I followed a simple and consistent testing methodology to give each tool a level playing field and ensure the results were as impartial as possible.
Here’s a quick breakdown of my process:
A final note before I move on: this article is written and reviewed by humans, for humans. This review and ratings are based on my personal experience with each tool (unless specifically mentioned otherwise).
And if you’re considering an AI writing tool for your needs, I highly recommend taking it for a spin yourself. You might find that certain features work better (or worse) depending on your specific workflow.
Wondering which AI is best for content creation? With so many options, a few tools stand out as the most widely used across industries.
Here are the five most popular AI writing tools:
1. ChatGPT: Best for AI-Powered Writing & Assistance
ChatGPT dominates the AI writing space. It helps users draft articles, emails and marketing copy in seconds. It is widely used because of its ease of use, natural language generation and the ability to adapt to different tones and styles.
2. Writesonic: Best for Blog & Marketing Content
Writesonic specializes in generating SEO-friendly blog posts, ad copy and website content. It’s a go-to tool for marketers looking for high-quality, optimized text at scale.
3. Jasper: Best for Scaling Written Content
Jasper is a leading AI writing tool that helps businesses scale content creation with high-quality, brand-aligned copy. It's an AI tool that comes with more whistles and bells than a typical writing tool.
Tool | Use Case | Price | Rating |
ChatGPT | AI-powered content generation & assistance | Free; Paid starts at $20/mo | 4.7/5 |
Claude | AI writing & research assistant | Free; Paid starts at $18/mo | 4.5/5 |
Frase | AI-driven blog post creation & SEO research | Free Trial available; Paid starts at $45/mo | 4.8/5 |
Writesonic | AI writing for blogs, marketing & ads | Free; Paid starts at $16/mo | 4.7/5 |
Jasper | AI content generation for businesses & marketing | Starts at $20/mo | 4.7/5 |
Gamma | AI-generated slide decks & documents | Free; Paid starts at $8/mo | 4.7/5 |
Visme (for AI presentation & documents) | AI-powered presentations, documents & branded content | Free; Paid starts at $12.25/mo | 4.5/5 |
Bit.ai | AI-powered documents, wikis & knowledge sharing | Free; Paid starts at $8/mo | 4.2/5 |
AI writing tools can speed up content creation, whether it’s blog posts, ad copy, or long-form articles. But not all AI writers are equal. Some are better for creative storytelling, while others focus on structured, SEO-friendly content.
I tested Claude and ChatGPT to see how they perform across different writing tasks.
Overall Rating: Claude is a top-tier AI writing assistant known for its smooth, natural writing style. It’s great for marketers, bloggers and businesses that need high-quality content.
To ensure fairness in this comparison, I entered the same prompt in both Claude and ChatGPT:
“Write a 250-word educational article on ‘The Surprising Benefits of Taking Cold Showers Daily.’ Cover at least 3 key benefits. Keep the tone engaging and informative and end with practical tips for beginners.”
And selected their most advanced models: 3.5 Sonnet for Claude and 4o for ChatGPT.
Here’s what Claude generated:
The writing is great, and to be fair, “human” too. It covers top benefits, follows the tone I asked it to write in and has a tip for beginners at the end too. It did everything that I asked it to.
One caveat with Claude (and other AI writing tools) is that it’ll make things up and present them as facts.
For example, Claude wrote, “Researchers at the Netherlands' Radboud University found that people who ended their showers with a 30-second cold blast took 29% fewer sick days than those who didn’t.”
And when I asked it to share the source with me, it simply backtracked by saying it may have stated the percentage incorrectly:
Overall, I like the writing style, accuracy and ease of use of Claude. To me, it’s definitely up there with the best free AI writing tools.
Overall Rating: Brilliant. It’s great for all sorts of writing and reasoning tasks, from marketing copy to creative storytelling.
I entered the same prompt as I did in Claude, and here’s what ChatGPT came up with:
Right off the bat, I like ChatGPT’s presentation more than Claude's. It does a fantastic job by breaking down benefits into subheadings and quickly rounds up tips at the end. Content-wise, there’s not much to pick between the two.
One thing (and that’s a major plus) with ChatGPT is that you can use the Search feature to find up-to-date information on your topics. I asked it to “Let's add real-life stats to improve this piece.” and here’s how it improved the content:
It added actual stats and gave me sources too. But a word of caution: don’t trust it blindly.
Here’s what B2B content strategist Mahnoor Sheikh says about using ChatGPT for research:
“I use ChatGPT every day as a writer, but never trust its sources. It will confidently cite statistics or research papers that either don’t exist or are misattributed. Still, it's incredibly useful for getting past writer’s block and exploring different angles. You just need to verify everything it tells you.”
I know what you’re thinking: doesn’t ChatGPT and Claude do the exact same thing?
Well, yes, sort of. But there are specialized blog post generators out there that go beyond just generating text.
Frase and Writesonic are built specifically for SEO-driven, structured content. They analyze top-ranking pages, suggest relevant keywords, and optimize your writing for better search visibility.
I tested both to see how they compare.
Overall Rating: Frase is a powerful AI blog post generator that combines SEO research with AI writing.
I gave both Frase and Writesonic the same prompts to test their capabilities:
“Write a 1,000-word blog post on the benefits of hybrid work, optimized for SEO.”
The keyword to focus on was “benefits of hybrid work”.
This is what Frase generated:
I like that it searched the top-ranking pages before generating the post, instead of just writing blindly.
The introduction was engaging but fairly generic (will definitely need to tweak that). However, the body of the post was well-organized, with keyword placement that felt natural rather than forced.
Frase can include stats and citations in the blog posts, but be sure to verify the sources.
I like the real-time SEO scoring of Frase. It allowed me to adjust the content’s readability, heading structure and keyword density for better search visibility.
The downside, however, with all AI-generated content (not just Frase) is that the content is repurposed. Sure, it’s good for SEO, but lacks any individuality and a strong unique voice.
That said, Frase is an excellent tool for content marketers who prioritize ranking potential.

Overall Rating: Writesonic is a high-speed AI blog post generator designed for marketers, bloggers, and businesses that need SEO-friendly content at scale.
I was blown away by the depth of response by Writesonic. It showed me the work it was doing at the back end and then generated a full-fledge research analysis report on the keyword “hybrid work benefits”.
After it completed all of that, it then went on to generate the blog post:
Overall, I like the results. Sure, a few words and sentence structures sound robotic, but I love that it did all the research on its end to finalize the subheadings that should go in the article, stats and even the angles blog post should focus on.
Overall Rating: Jasper AI is a well-known AI writing assistant designed for marketers and businesses that need high-quality copy at scale. It specializes in generating copy with an intuitive interface and deep customization options.
Once inside Jasper’s dashboard, you can start a new project using one of its pre-built templates or the Brand Voice feature to align AI-generated content with your style.
For this test, I used the Blog Post Workflow:
After it completed all of that, it then went on to generate the blog post:
Jasper quickly created a structured, readable blog post with logical headings, relevant details, and a tone that aligned with the prompt. The AI-generated copy was coherent and engaging, though I had to tweak phrasing and transitions in some areas.
Creating presentations and documents from scratch isn’t just about design—it’s a content creation process that takes time and effort.
You need to structure your ideas, refine your messaging, and craft compelling visuals to make an impact.
But with AI-powered content generators, you can streamline the process, letting your assistant handle the heavy lifting while you focus on fine-tuning the final result.
I tested multiple AI-driven tools designed for both content creation, built-in AI writing tools and presentation design, but two stood out: Visme and Gamma. Here’s how they performed.
Overall rating: Visme AI produces remarkable presentations—all complete with colors, images, presentation copy, icons and intelligent layouts. It’s the best in class when it comes to AI-generated presentations.
To get started, all you have to do is go to your Visme dashboard and find and click on Create with AI. It’s pretty hard to miss. And on the “chat” interface that pops up, write in detail the type of presentation or document you want the AI assistant to generate.
To make sure this comparison is completely unbiased, I shared the same prompt with both design tools:
“Create a presentation on ‘The Future of Remote Work: Trends, Benefits, and Challenges.’ The presentation should include a title slide, an introduction, three key trend slides, a benefits slide, a challenges slide, and a conclusion. Use a professional and engaging tone with a clean and visually appealing design.”
The chatbot then asks you to choose a style for the presentation. This may seem like a simple addition, but I love that it shows you different styles so you’re bound to find something that matches your aesthetic.
Once you make your selection, wait a minute or two and let AI do its work.
Here are the results:
I know this isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but wow, these look really good!
I’ll need to make some color changes, text and image alignments and tweak the copy, but considering that this took me less than 2 minutes, we’re in crazy good territory here.
Now that I have my AI-generated design, I’ll go in and add my brand colors. Instead of manually uploading my colors and logos to the platform, I’ll turn to Visme’s Brand Wizard for this—just enter your website URL and the AI wizard will pull all your brand assets and store them in your Brand Kit for one-click addition to your projects.
Next, I’ll adjust the presentation copy. If I have something already written down, I’ll just copy-paste it to the project but if I’m unsure of what to write I’ll ask Visme’s AI writer to generate text for me. It works the same way as ChatGPT does: the better the prompt, the better the output.
Next, adjust the imagery of the presentation. Visme has a stock photo and video library that you can choose from. It also has a vector icon library where you’ll find animated visuals to spruce up your projects.
While on the subject of AI, you can also use the platform’s other AI tools, like:
For example, here’s Visme’s AI background remover tool in action:
And on top of all these AI features, Visme also has dynamic fields that automatically adjust content based on different audiences, a range of interactive content creation tools and advanced collaboration tools—making it easily one of the best AI generators for presentations, documents, ebooks and more!
Overall Rating: Gamma AI is a great AI presentation tool that prioritizes speed and simplicity over deep customization. It quickly generates well-structured, scroll-based presentations, which makes it a great choice for users who need instant presentations with minimal design effort.
Once inside your Gamma interface, click on Create New AI to get started. On the screen that pops up, you’ll have three choices to pick from:
I chose the second option to keep the review consistent.
I entered the same prompt as I did while testing Visme and selected the number of slides I wanted in my presentation.
Gamma then quickly created an outline for the presentation and asked me to pick a theme of my choice, amount of text per card and image sources. I like how Gamma lets you pick and choose from where you want your images sourced. These could be web images, illustrations or AI images. I chose AI images as my source and the pre-selected Flux Fast AI image model.
Here’s the result:
Again, the results are not perfect, but really good. Even though I’m tired of seeing AI images and don’t think they add “personality” to professional projects, these were generally relevant to the topic and got a pass from me. Plus, you can always go and change how you want your images sourced.
The presentation layout was terrific, but the copy leaves much to be desired. No big issues as you can always use the platform’s Edit with AI feature to improve writing, fix grammar, translate etc.
Probably my biggest issue was the similarity of theme options. Sure, the presentation colors and font styles are different for each. But after a while, the layout of all Gamma presentations starts to look the same. Overall, though, Gamma’s AI does some pretty fantastic stuff and you can’t really go wrong with it.
Overall Rating: Bit's AI Genius writer is a smart writing assistant tool that helps create content in minutes. It can be used to create any type of content, be it newsletters, project docs, or marketing ideas. It helps you write faster and better with built-in intelligence. Some of its features are:
To start using Bit’s Genius AI Writer, open any document inside the Bit workspace. You'll find the AI assistant right inside the editor, no extra plugins or extensions required.
You can either type a prompt manually or select from the built-in prompt library, which includes predefined templates for summaries, outlines, translations, and more.
During testing, I chose to generate a short product doc with SEO optimization prompts. Bit responded quickly with a clean, readable draft.
The SEO keyword integration was decent, not too forced, and the writing tone was neutral and professional, fitting for most business teams. I especially liked the inline editing experience; everything happens without breaking your writing flow.
My only gripe? Bit is still very text-heavy. If you’re looking to add charts, visuals, or layouts, this isn’t the tool for that. Bit is more about streamlined text collaboration than visual storytelling — but that’s by design
The most popular AI writing tool is ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI.
With millions of users worldwide, ChatGPT is widely used for content creation, research assistance, and rewriting text. Its advanced language model, GPT-4, allows it to generate human-like responses, making it a top choice for writers, marketers, and students.
Other highly rated AI writing tools include Claude (Anthropic), Jasper, Writesonic, and Frase, each catering to specific use cases like SEO writing, blog generation, or academic assistance.
For academic writing, Claude and ChatGPT are two of the best AI tools. Claude (by Anthropic) is particularly useful for research-based writing, summarizing complex topics, and providing citations. ChatGPT (GPT-4) is widely used for drafting, structuring essays, and brainstorming ideas.
If you need an AI that integrates plagiarism detection and citation generation, tools like Frase and Writesonic can assist in refining content for academic purposes. However, AI-generated text should always be fact-checked and edited to meet academic integrity standards.
If you need to rewrite or paraphrase text while maintaining clarity and natural flow, ChatGPT, Claude, and Jasper are top choices.
ChatGPT (GPT-4) is excellent at rewording content while keeping the original intent. Claude excels at summarizing and restructuring complex information with a more natural tone.
Yes, several AI writing tools offer free versions with limited features. ChatGPT (GPT-3.5) is available for free through OpenAI, making it a popular choice for general writing. Claude also has a free tier for AI writing and research.
For content marketing, Writesonic and Frase offer free trials, though premium features require a paid plan.
While free AI tools are useful, they often have word limits, restricted access to advanced AI models (like GPT-4), or require upgrades for professional use. If you need AI-generated content frequently, investing in a paid plan may offer better accuracy, higher word limits, and enhanced features.
Yes, ChatGPT (GPT-3.5) is one of the best free AI writing tools that produces human-like text. It can generate natural, well-structured content for blogs, emails, essays, and more. Claude (Anthropic’s AI) also offers a free tier and is known for its conversational and context-aware writing.
Whether an AI is “better” than ChatGPT depends on your needs. Claude (Anthropic) is often considered a strong competitor for research-based writing and complex reasoning. It tends to be more reliable for long-form content and factual accuracy
Whether you’re generating blog posts, creating drafts and producing content at scale, there’s an AI writing tool and content generator out there that’s built to do just that, whether it's ChatGPT, Claude, Frase, and Writesonic.
But when it comes to AI-driven graphic design, branded content and presentations, Visme is the clear winner.
Visme AI offers reliable tools like the AI Design Generator, Image Generator, TouchUp Tools, and AI Writer, making it an all-in-one platform for content creation. Whether you need to generate stunning visuals, refine images, or craft engaging presentations, Visme combines automation with creative control, ensuring your content is polished and on-brand.
And on top of all that, it comes with thousands of professional templates, a brand kit for consistent visuals, collaboration features for seamless teamwork and brilliant animation and interactivity features.
